…to the Chico Avenues Neighborhood Association (CANA) website.
CANA coalesced in 2003 as a grassroots advocacy group for the Chico Avenues Neighborhood. Key concerns identified at that time included traffic, safe passage to school, preservation of neighborhood character and other quality of life issues. Following the approval of the Chico Avenues Neighborhood Plan, CANA pursued allocation of RDA funds for plan implementation. These funds were approved but have since been revoked in large part due to the disappearance of RDA funding by the State of California.
Our board meetings are less frequent these days but things are happening and our members continue to be involved. For instance, an Esplanade corridor study has begun, issues concerning what to do with the County Courthouse and surrounding properties are starting to surface, Enloe Hospital has constant updates and improvements to their remodel that are of concern, and there is a proposal to change City Council elections from at-large to district representation.
We will try to keep you informed on concerns in the Avenues. If we miss something, let us know. Our email contact is president@chicoavenues.org.
CANA will be sponsoring a candidates forum for Butte County Supervisor, in Districts 2 and 3, at Citrus Elementary School on the evening of May 1st, 2018 at 6:30 pm. All of the candidates have indicated that they plan to attend. The forum is open to all members of the community. See “Avenue News” section for more information.
